Ephemeral
A poem by Sarah Mann
Sarah Mann is a Christian, writer, musician, and lover of all things whimsical. When she isn't working on her college courses or writing the latest chapter in her novels, she enjoys reading, exercising, watching movies/shows, and spending time with her family and friends.
Only for a moment do we see the rocket’s light
As it thrusts into the sky beyond the stars;
It only takes ten seconds to see a man take flight.
Space travel is what history aims to write
While scientists dream of reaching Mars—
Only for a moment do we see the rocket’s light.
Humans stare up into the sky at night,
Thanking the Lord that this beauty is ours:
It only takes ten seconds to see a man take flight.
Decade after decade man reaches new heights,
And time moves so fast that we forget how far.
Only for a moment do we see the rocket’s light.
But if we never forget the wonder of the sight
And keep dreaming of the beauty in the stars,
It only takes ten seconds to see a man take flight.
Galactic wonder is amazingly bright
In a world where people can move fast in cars—
Only for a moment do we see the rocket’s light:
It only takes ten seconds to see a man take flight.

This is such a beautiful poem, it really makes you ponder the ephemeralness of man and the world. And as for the imagery, I can practically see the rocket going up into the evening-blue sky with a fiery trail behind it. Wonderful job Sarah! 👏🥰
Such a fantastic poem! It’s so wonderful seeing your work out in the world!!!
